The following poem was written by
Marvin Caldwell. He offers great insight into the effect of wife abuse
on children.
  
 Why Must The Children Suffer?
The violent brutality has a lasting
consequence
Children scarred deeply, it doesn’t make sense
How can this happen in this day of time
Domestic violence lives, is society so blind?
I worry for the children, for them most of all
Who stands up for them, or makes a 911 call?
The wife being abused may not realize
the children suffer most, can’t she hear their cries?
She must get help, if only for the children’s sake
It is the best decision she may ever make
Quit covering up a life full of brutality
Help is available, accept it and be free!

Special Note:
We believe that what is happening will not affect the chidldren but it
does. By staying you are raising the next generation of abusers and abuse
victims. Your sons will become abusers and your daughters will become victims
of abuse. Why? Because that is what they've seen as a role model for what
marriage is all about.
I know this isn't what you want...so get out and get yourself and the children
some help.
If you choose to stay, then place the children either with relatives or
in the Children's Aid Society, somewhere where they can have a chance to
grow up healthy and not continue in the cycle of abuse. The choice
to stay may be yours...but it certainly isn't the children's, so at least
let them have a chance at a decent life.
