A Mother's Gift

You gave me life,
but more precious than life,
You gave me love.
And gave me the ability to love,
The greatest gift of all.

You nurtured me, believed in me,
Even when I was in error.
All your dedication was not wasted
For it lives in me.

It gives me the capacity to forgive,
And the ability to withstand pressures,
All of this, you gave to me,
And more, much more.

You molded me,
a clay figure of your design,
Of your likeness.
Gave me a heart, gave me emotions,
And gave me love.

And now, I give to you my love,
And hope that my gift to you
Is a beacon, that might light your way
Into the future.
